More on Pyrex
Doing the research on the history of Pyrex was really interesting and a lot of fun. I had absolutely no idea it had such an unusual beginning. The need was very practical. But then aren’t most things invented because of a very real and practical need? I would guess that most homemakers of that day were very frustrated with the cookware available to them. They had a need for baking dishes that didn’t fracture in the oven. I really cannot imagine my life without Pyrex. I would guess that I use a Pyrex product every day. From measuring cups to mixing bowls, storage containers and baking dishes, all of those items are at hand to be used while preparing meals, baking or storing food in my kitchen.
While writing and researching the history article, I thought of the durability of the basic Pyrex baking dish and a favorite dessert of my grandchildren, the Jello Poke Cake. It really shows the durability of the glassware. That durability was the very thing that was attractive about the glass used in the Pyrex bake ware. You bake a cake, pour boiling Jello over it and immediately put the dish in the refrigerator and never stop to wonder if the glass will crack or break because of the temperature extremes. Time after time it works. I know that I take for granted that the Pyrex baking dish that I am using will be reliable.
As I said, the Jello Poke cake is a favorite of my grandchildren and we just recently made one for Saint Patrick’s Day.

Pizza Shed to me and my folks is kind of a staple. They have been in operation over fifty years now, and I have been a patron for thirty of those years. Forget Zwieback Teething Toast, I cut my teeth on Pizza Shed pizza crust. For about ten years straight, Fri. nights in my place were Pizza Shed night complete with a giant pepperoni and additional cheese crust.
For a bit, I’ll admit – I wandered. My body’s wishes modified and I desired a lighter, thinner crust. For those times, another famous pizza chain do perfectly. For a long while, I smartened up my diet habits and saw pizza as the enemy and accordingly I kept away. Since having married nevertheless I’ve been drawn back in by a hubby who is as married to Pizza Hut pizza as I once was.
Pizza Shed is maybe best well-known for their pan pizza – named so as it is baked in a deep-dish pan. Its crust is thick, golden brown, crispy and glazed with a light coating of oil which, though maybe not the best choice for healthy cholesterol, is impossible to resist in its crispy crackly texture.
Lately , I have reignited a love affair I once had with the salad bar that’s available in most full-service Pizza Shed restaurants . I have always been a good shopper of plants thanks to constant offerings at the table while I was growing up, but recently as I have exposed all of the health advantages of consuming fresh foods from nature, I have become slightly obsessed and now hunger for veg as much as I infrequently hunger for chocolate.
Now, one of my fave things worth doing with my man is have dinner at our local Pizza Shed . He fills up on pizza and bread sticks. I gorge myself on lettuce, carrots, broccoli, bell peppers, cheese and a drip of dressing. Then I enjoy a cut or 2 of pepperoni pizza . That way I get the finest of everything – fresh plant excellent for my healthfulness cheesy impossible to resist pizza and an absolutely satisfied belly.
Pizza Hut’s latest alteration has been a very publicized offering of pasta.Am I mad, or does anybody else remember that Pizza Shed has always had spaghetti and ziti on the menu? OK, I understand – they are offering NEW pasta, and they need to ensure we all know about it. Point taken.
Among the new pasta offerings are a rotini in a jetty beef sauce, a chicken Alfredo, and a mac and cheese with bacon.
In my opinion, they are all succulent although I need to say the Alfredo chicken with its smooth, sophisticated cheese flavour is maybe my favourite. The beefy pier has a rather spicy kick which is exciting on the tastes, and the mac and cheese is creamy with a rich mouth-feel.
All the pasta are baked, and come to the table with a wonderful crust of golden baked cheesy deliciousness.
When delivered, an aluminium tin nestled within a card box keeps them hot and mouth watering till they reach your door. If you are a regular patron of take-out, pasta brought to your door is a great alternative option to having pizza delivered.
Pizza Shed has come a good distance from the dark wood paneling of twenty years back. They’re developing with a new image to meet the demands of the next generation, and if they keep turning out great pizza, fresh salad and brilliant pasta, I promise that generations to come of my folks will also get the opportunity to cut their teeth on a pleasant, thick pizza crust ( and perhaps a chunk of broccoli for a balanced nosh ).
